Pingfm thumb Ping your posts to multiple sources Do you have multiple social networking accounts and profiles?

Don’t you wish you could write a post once and have it pop into all your various accounts?

Well haven’t you heard of Ping.fm? Post From Anywhere » To Anywhere. Simple.

Ping.fm is a simple and FREE service that makes updating your social networks a snap!

I personally don’t like for my micro-blogging posts to go into my blog, but you can with Ping.fm.

Below is a screenshot of my own dashboard in Ping and the services I have it auto-post to.

Here’s a list of Ping’s supported social networks.

Ping Developer’s Google Group will show you how to add your own custom URL & php script to link to your blog or elsewhere.

When you add your post into the Dashboard message box, you just click “Ping it!” and Ping will automatically shorten your links to short Ping links. This allows you the ability to go over the 140 character limit as long as it’s your links text that is making you go over that limit. I still try to keep mine under the 140 character limit so my tweets can be re-tweeted without a problem.

Once you’ve added a post and Pinged it, you can click on the “Recent Posts” link and then click on the Ping-created link to see statistics on how many times the links your post have been clicked and where those clicks came from (your various chosen dashboard social networks).

It takes a little effort to connect all your social networking accounts to Ping, but it is well worth it.

Does anyone know of a better service for posting to multiple social networking services?

Since Ping doesn’t allow you to choose your URL shortening service and I’ve not received any response to my support question about being able to keep my statistical data (they automatically clear it after 30 days), I’ve decided to use Bit.ly for my URL shortening instead. It lets you track longer, it show true clicks (doesn’t count “clients”), and it’s built in to my new favorite tool TweetDeck.

Now I just use the bit.ly sidebar bookmarklet in Firefox to shorten my links, then use that as my links inside of Ping to ping all my profiles at once.
