This is a blog designed as a complete website.
Blog + Website = Blogsite.
Think of your blogsite as it’s own little country and visitors to it as tourists.
Every country who wants tourists needs to have a good map.
Every map needs these key components to be a good and useful map …
- Country = Domain Name. The country tells the tourists what part of the world (wide web) they are visiting.
- Government = Hosting. This isn’t really part of the map itself, but it does effect how well your country functions and therefore has a direct effect on your tourism efforts.
- Cities = Pages. Cities represent the major destinations that tourists want to visit.
- Roads = Categories. Roads mark the various ways tourists can travel around on the map.
- Landmarks = Tags. Landmarks are special areas on the map that help tourists easily find a particular destination by the shortest route possible while also offering directions to complimentary attractions.
- Graphics = Themes. Graphics demarcate territorial boundaries, separate water from land and give an overall sense of “personality” and “mood” to the map.
I’ve created an entire series on designing your own blogsite using this map analogy.
First up is setting up your domain name.
Here’s your map to all the posts in this series.
