It’s that time of year again. Time to get all geared up for the holidays.

Do you know how to write great Holiday subject lines for emails?

Readers are more likely to open emails from companies they already know, trust, and hear from regularly.

Research shows that the most opened emails usually have the company’s name followed by a combination of “newsletter” and “month” (i.e. “Aim It Media’s October Newsletter”, OR “Aim It Media Newsletter -October 2009″, etc.). The second most popular is the company’s name followed by a special invitation (i.e. “Aim It Media special invite”, OR “Aim It Media’s exclusive invitation”, OR “Holiday specials at Aim It Media”, etc.).

According to The National Mail Order Association (NMOA.org) Benjamin Franklin is believed to have been the first cataloger in the United States. In 1744, he formulated the basic mail-order concept when he produced the first catalog, which sold scientific and academic books. He is also credited with offering the first mail-order guarantee: “Those persons who live remote, by sending their orders and money to B. Franklin may depend on the same justice as if present.” (excerpted from Wikipedia.org)

What image comes to mind when you think the word “catalogue” (catalog)?
Thousands of dollars spent on expensive photographers and fancy models?

A good mailing list allows you to target the exact type of person or business that’s most likely to desire your product or service. Once you have your mailing list, you need to refine your segmentation criteria so that you can adjust your offers and send relevant messages to the different segments of your list.

If you don’t already have a mailing list (or if you want to expand your customer base) you can rent or purchase a list from a list broker. Make sure that you do your homework so that you chose a reputable broker and therefore a reliable list.
These tips also apply to email lists, not just postal mailing lists.
